We want our patients informed, and we require all individuals interested in having a bariatric procedure to attend one. The seminar will educate you in the types of bariatric surgery offered at our center, it will give you a basic understanding of the risks, and what is expected of you once you have surgery. Hopefully, you will be able to make in an informed decision.
We want our patients to be informed, and to have a chance to ask any question that they may have in an environment that is open and low stress.
After the seminar by Dr. Poplawski, you will have the chance to sit down with Doc Pop for a private one-on-one consultation. This is a quiet, private chance for you to ask any questions that you may have. Once you decide that you want to meet with the surgeon, an office encounter will be created. We will submit this to your insurance carrier and any co-pays would apply.
We want you to feel at ease, and also to understand how bariatric surgery can help you. This one-on-one meeting is designed just for that. Dr. Poplawski will go over any medical history you have, he will also talk to you about the options that would suit you best based on your weight, age and medical history.
This will be an opportunity to review and discuss your current and past medical conditions. This visit usually involves an abbreviated medical exam. It is also an opportunity to ask questions in a more private setting. You will be able to discuss how one operation may be best for you and another might be inappropriate. Based on you, your health and life style.
The educational seminar is an opportunity to learn about your options available for bariatric surgery. This seminar is free...no strings, no fine print and no rush or push. Everyone will leave with a copy of the seminar on a DVD. This will give you the opportunity to share this information with your family and private physician.
If you would like to meet with Dr. Poplawski after the seminar for a one-on-one consultation, we can most often accomplish this immediately after the seminar. This is the beginning of the medical process to prepare you for operation. This consultation will be billed to your insurance company and co-pays and deductibles will apply.
We want you to make your decision when you are ready. If you want to think things over or talk to your family, friend or physician, we want you to do that. Bariatric surgery is something that we want our patients to make an informed and well thought out decision about.
Each seminar lasts 60 to 90 minutes. Since it is an educational platform, questions from those attending are encouraged and answered to the best of our ability. We believe that a well-informed patient can be more comfortable and successful. We will try to provide the answers you need to help you make your decision.
The goal of the seminar is to provide a base of information to help you make an informed decision. The lecture does not cover every situation or scenario, but we believe it is a good start.
Once you decide to go forward with the surgery, we will work with you to arrange insurance authorization, and that process tends to take the longest.
If you choose to move forward after the seminar and medical consultation and are a good candidate for weight loss surgery, we will provide you with additional information and communications about each step of the process. We will work with you to arrange insurance authorization. That process tends to take the longest. Each insurance company works differently. The insurance specialists at our center will work directly with your insurance carrier to get approval.

Two or three times each week, Doc Pop gives free educational weight-loss seminars for individuals considering bariatric surgery. The seminars answer what morbid obesity is, and what operations are available to treat the disease.
Each session lasts 1 – 1 ½ hours, depending on the questions asked; Since it is an educational platform, questions from the bariatric surgery candidates are always addressed and answered. Often, questions about “what happens in the hospital during the surgery” and “what happens after you have the bariatric surgery and leave the hospital” are asked, and that’s OK. A good patient is a well-informed one, and we like to provide the answers you need before you make your decision.
Our seminars never claim to have miracle cures for weight loss, however if you are morbidly obese and looking at bariatric surgery as a means to loose the weight, Doc Pop’s seminar may address your questions and concerns, and ultimately answer the question “Is bariatric surgery right for me?”
All of our seminars take place at our Ypsilanti office located at 135 S. Prospect Street, Ypsilanti Michigan 48198. To find out how to get to us, simple click HERE to go to our handy map.
